Healthy Chili Recipe Roundup for Superbowl Sunday

Turkey Black Bean Chili

Turkey Black Bean Chili

Superbowl Sunday is coming up. Who are you rooting for? We are a huge football family – weekends, Monday nights and Thursday nights are dedicated to watching football from September through Super Bowl weekend.  My husband is a huge New York Giants fan, but three of our boys root for different teams (much to my husband’s chagrin), so you can imagine the banter that goes on during football season. Now that we are down to one team, namely the Giants, that has two fans in our family, we will all be gathered around the big screen this coming weekend, hopefully cheering for the same team.

I’m still mulling over which chili recipe to make this weekend, but in the meanwhile, I thought I’d share some healthier chili recipes that caught my eye. Last year, I put together a Roundup of Healthy and Hearty Soup, Chowder, Stew and Chili Recipes and a Roundup of Healthy Super Bowl Recipes, so you can reference these as well. For more fun Super Bowl recipes, check out my Super Bowl Pinterest Board.

Thanks for including my recipe. There are so many great ideas here that I almost — almost — want to plan a Super Bowl party just so I can make some of them! Turkey chili has pretty much taken over in our house. I love chili made with beef, but so many of those recipes can be adapted to the lighter, leaner turkey. Sometimes, I add a bit more heat to help the turkey along, but I think I’d add more heat to just about anything!

Lydia – your Turkey Mole chili caught my eye with its rich base. I agree, if you’re looking for a “beefier” tasting chili that is lighter, turkey works well as long as you punch up the flavor with some spices and heat!

“A house divided over Superbowl comes together over food”, isn’t that some sort of ancient philosopher’s quote? If not, we’ll make it one now. What a roundup!! I’m bummed my 49ers missed the big show and so Ill have plenty of time to roll through this great lineup since I’ll be focused on cooking and not watching! Thanks for including my turkey chili recipe. Go Giants.

I’ll be playing with a few of this as the winter continues. Chili is so warming to come home to and lightening them up is a bonus!

What a terrific roundup, Jeanette! There are so many great versions of chili. I’d like to try all that are pictured and listed here. 🙂 I make my vegetarian one with a hefty amount of portabello mushrooms included, so even hubby doesn’t complain because he gets his “meaty” taste. 😉

I love the idea of using meaty portobello mushrooms in chili in a vegetarian chili.

Chili is a great idea for any party – especially this time of year. So easy, and only one pot to clean up at the end of the night if you use paper bowls. Win-win, in my estimation – especially if you’re making light and hearty turkey chili. Yum!
