This Mango Planter’s Punch Mocktail is a fun way to start the weekend. Made with fresh fruit and fruit juice with a splash of club soda, it’s refreshing and light.
I’ve been having fun coming up with mocktails for my kids lately. The hot weather and the anticipation of lazy summer days calls for poolside drinks and dreaming about lying on the beach with one of these cold drinks in hand.
I found a recipe for Planter’s Punch on Cooking Light recently, a cocktail that made its first appearance in the early 1900’s. It’s a traditional Caribbean cocktail made with orange and pineapple juice, guava nectar and rum. Best results are achieved using fresh juice, but in a pinch, I used store-bought orange juice and pineapple juice. I pureed fresh mango instead of adding guava nectar and left out the rum, and ended up with a Mango Planter’s Punch Mocktail.
The garnish is what give this mocktail a tropical theme – a fun cocktail umbrella and a spear with a fresh pineapple chunk, orange slice and maraschino cherry (I found a jar that contains no artificial colors or flavors made by Tillen Farms)
I served this to my boys after school recently as a special treat and they loved it.
Cheers!
