This Hawaiian Shaved Ice with Mango and Coconut Milk is a great way to cool down on a hot summer day.

It’s been so hot lately that I’ve been craving shaved ice. I used to have a hand crank shaved ice machine, but gave it to a friend a number of years ago because her kids loved shaved ice. So, I “upgraded” this time to an electric ice shaver.

Shaved ice is very popular in Asian where it is served with all sorts of interesting toppings, including sweetened beans, tapioca pearls, little sticky rice balls, different kinds of jellies, and fresh fruit. A little condensed milk is sometimes drizzled on top for some sweetness. When we were in Hawaii a few years ago, we stopped by a Shave Ice store which offered lots of different toppings. They looked like giant snow cones!

My simple version of Hawaiian shaved ice uses just fresh mango, coconut milk and a little homemade organic simple syrup. It’s refreshing and light, and will cool you down on the hottest of summer days.

We have a machine, but haven’t pulled it out in years. My kids used to love it! I guess I’ve sort of forgotten about it, but you’ve got me inspired. I think I will surprise them.. and I’m loving the flavors you have here. #inspired

For some reason, when I was a kid I used to order shaved ice but I would get it plain without any flavoring. I guess I just liked to eat ice! Now that I’m older I love flavors and this mango and coconut milk shaved ice sounds heavenly! I’m about to go to bed, but I find myself wishing I had one right now! I love all the flavors 🙂

I used to love eating snow as a kid, so I can completely relate to eating just ice 🙂
