This Cantaloupe Mint Rose Batidos is a refreshing drink for a hot summer day. Scented with rose water and cool with mint, it’s the perfect drink to cool down with.

There’s a Venezuelan restaurant near our house that our kids love. Not only is the food good, but the drink options are very kid-friendly. They serve a variety of batidos, which are frosty fruit and milk drinks, made with fresh fruit, milk, sugar and ice. I think they might also put a touch of cream into theirs as well. Batidos are kind of like a smoothie, just icier. They’re super refreshing.

Recently, I made a Cantaloupe Mint Rose Water Batidos as a refreshing drink for my kids at lunchtime. It was the perfect way to get them to eat their fruit while enjoying a frosty treat. Cantaloupe and other melons are in season now so batidos are a great way to enjoy them as they are so full of natural juiciness. A few mint leaves makes this batidos even more refreshing and a splash of rose water (found at an Indian grocery store) adds a beautiful fragrance.

For some reason I never think to use melon in smoothies (and calling it a batido just sounds better, too.) That Venezuelan restaurant should consider this recipe for their menu!

Deanna – I’ve never used cantaloupe in a smoothie before either but it is so full of natural water, so perfect for a refreshing summer drink.

Love your use of cantalope in this. I certainly underuse melon in smoothies (or as you have educated me “batidos”.)
