Today, I am sharing my collection of gluten-free and dairy-free Thanksgiving recipes that I have accumulated this past year. I can’t believe how quickly Thanksgiving has crept up on us. This time of year always seems to go at warp speed. This is our family’s first gluten-free (and dairy-free) Thanksgiving. It’s almost been one year since we found out my youngest son was allergic to wheat and dairy. In fact, it was right after last Thanksgiving that my son started complaining of stomach pains, which we would later find out were due to his food allergies.
Preparing our family’s Thanksgiving meal is usually pretty easy for me, but this year I was a little nervous about making breakfast breads, stuffing, pumpkin pie and apple crisp, since these all needed to be gluten-free. I’ve been busy experimenting in the kitchen over the past month to make sure I have a delicious and healthy gluten-free and dairy-free Thanksgiving meal for the entire family. When I first started out cooking gluten-free for my son, I prepared two dinners, one for him, and one for everyone else. It was a ton of work!
I soon realized how much easier it would be if I just made one meal for the entire family that was gluten-free. The only caveat was that it had to taste really good. It’s easy to cook gluten-free, but a lot harder to bake gluten-free.
You see, my earlier forays into gluten-free baking were not always successful so I have had to gradually earn back the trust of my boys. Fortunately, I’ve gotten better at baking gluten-free so they have learned that eating gluten-free goodies doesn’t mean eating grainy, off-flavored baked goods. In fact, they now know that gluten-free quick breads, cakes and cookies can taste pretty darn good.
If you’re entertaining guests for Thanksgiving, it’s likely that someone will be on a special diet, whether it’s gluten-free, dairy-free (or lactose-intolerant), vegetarian or vegan. I hope this collection of healthy gluten-free and dairy-free recipes from my kitchen provides a resource for you if you haven’t finished planning your Thanksgiving menu.
Enjoy and I wish everyone a blessed Thanksgiving holiday!

Now this is an awesome list of recipes for Thanksgiving. You sure have quite the collection already! LOL I am dying to make your pumpkin coffee cake. That would be an awesome way to start Thanksgiving morning!! 😉

Thanks Kim – those pumpkin coffee cakes are really good, a real treat for Thanksgiving. I brought some up to my sister-in-laws the other day (none of her family is gluten-free) and they loved it.

Jeanette, this post warms my heart so much! Not only for all the amazing recipes, dear, but also for the overall message. There is absolutely no reason that any family needs to cook two meals. Yes, it takes a little testing and practice as you’ve mentioned, but good food is good food. Gluten free and dairy free recipes can be some of the very best, and often taste better than the originals.. 😉
Thanks for this, Jeanette! Off to share! xo,
Shirley

Thanks so much for your kind words Shirley – I have learned so much over the past year and I have you and others in the gluten-free community to thank. You all have been so encouraging and helped me get through a really tough spot with my little guy. I am just so grateful that he is feeling so much better now.

Jeanette, What a beautiful collection of recipes you’ve chosen for the big holiday. The beet and apple soup is a must try (you know how much i love beets!!) and the sugar and spice winter squash is a recipe that will definitely find it’s way in my home. Thank you sharing them with us and I hope you have an amazing family holiday.
Jeanette says
Thanks France – yes, I do know you love beets! ;). The sugar and spice winter squash is a good recipe – I’m glad I dug through my recipe index and found this. Will be making this again soon.

Great list of recipes. I am encouraged by all the attention gluten-free eating is getting around the country. You know gluten-free eaters have reached a critical mass when chefs and major newspapers join the parade. I have more great ideas on my post Thanksgiving Gluten-Free Recipes. Thanks Sue – yes, I agree, it has gotten easier to find gluten-free food and recipes. Hopefully, restaurants will start catching on and stocking some gluten-free pasta and bread for those that need gluten-free options and don’t want to feel left out. We were at Disney this past summer and they were terrific – they had both gluten-free pasta and gluten-free bread at their hotel restaurant.
