This Thai Sweet Chili Sauce is sweet and spicy, and is a popular dipping sauce for Thai Barbecue Chicken.
This past weekend, three of my boys were home for the weekend to celebrate Mother’s Day. I always love having them home – I miss all the laughter and commotion in the house.
We had our first big barbecue of the season and made one of my favorite Thai grilled chicken recipes.
This Thai Sweet Chili Sauce is the dipping sauce I made to serve with it – just six ingredients. I used homemade Thai chili garlic sauce, but you can substitute store bought.
This Thai Sweet Chili Sauce is sweet, tangy and spicy, and compliments the curry coconut flavors in the chicken nicely.
Thai Sweet Chili Sauce
Ingredients
- 1 garlic clove finely chopped
- 1/2 - 1 teaspoon Thai Chili Garlic Sauce depending on how spicy you like it
- 1/4 cup organic sugar
- 1/4 cup water
- 1/4 teaspoon sea salt
- 6 tablespoons raw unfiltered apple cider vinegar
Instructions
-
Place all ingredients in a small saucepan and bring to a boil; reduce heat to medium low and let cook until slightly reduced, about 5 minutes. Let cool.

This reminds me of a pistachio crusted grouper with a sweet chili sauce that I had a few years ago and I LOVED it and always wanted to recreate that recipe. Now I’ve got the sauce to do so, thanks for sharing 🙂

That’s so nice most of the boys were able to make it home for Mother’s Day! Sounds like they ate well with the BBQ and Thai Sweet Chili Sauce.

Could this be used on a vermicelli noodle bowl?
Jeanette says
Yes – it would be delicious drizzled on a noodle bowl – this sauce is quite strong, so you be sure to taste it as you go.
