My kids love smoothies. Â They’re a great way to pack in lots of nutrients in an easy to digest form. Â Smoothies are so versatile. Â Basically, all you need are your favorite fruits (berries, mangoes, peaches, use your imagination!), yogurt (if you want extra protein), and a liquid (coconut water, orange juice, almond milk). Â If you want a frozen smoothie, it’s best to use frozen fruit. Â I freeze sliced ripe bananas in a ziploc bag so I can throw them into a smoothie anytime. Â Bananas add creaminess and silkiness to smoothies. Â Here’s my basic recipe:
Easy Fruit Smoothie
1 banana, frozen, sliced
1/2 cup fruit (berries, peaches, mango, papaya, pineapple, use your imagination)
2 tablespoons non-fat yogurt (plain or vanilla)
1/4 cup orange juice, coconut water, or almond milk
squeeze of lime juice
a few ice cubes (if no frozen fruit is used)
Blend everything until smooth and slurp through a fat straw. Â Yum!
Here are two other great recipes:
- Gluten-Free Goddess’Â Blueberry SmoothieÂ
- Dr. Fuhrman’s Blueberry Flax Smoothie, full of cancer fighting antioxidants.  Blueberries have one of the highest levels of antioxidants found in fruits, plus they add natural sweetness.
