These DIY Homemade Instant Oatmeal In A Jar Recipes make breakfast a no-brainer. The combinations and possibilities are endless and make for a delicious and healthy way to start the day.
This past week, I’ve been playing around with different oatmeal combinations at breakfast time to mix things up. There are so many different combinations you can come up with and making DIY Homemade Instant Oatmeal In A Jar is a great way to pick and choose your favorites.
The best thing about making your own Instant Oatmeal mixes is that you can choose the very best ingredients – organic quick cooking oats, unsweetened unsulphured organic dried fruits, raw or roasted nuts – and add extra mix-ins as you please. Chia seeds and ground flax seeds add extra fiber and protein, and almond butter or sunflower butter add healthy fats and protein. Sweeteners are optional, and you have your choice here too, whether it’s maple syrup, honey, or organic jam.
One serving of oatmeal is 1/3 cup – 1/2 cup dried and has 100-150 calories. When I add in chia seeds or flax seeds, I use 1/3 cup oatmeal; otherwise, I use 1/2 cup. Depending on what your caloric target is for breakfast, choose your ingredients wisely.
I’ve put together this chart of Oatmeal Add-Ins with calories so you can get an idea of what you’re eating when you choose different mix-ins. I’ve assumed one tablespoon of these ingredients (except the milk products) for the caloric count. All the fruits, nut butters and milks in this chart are unsweetened.
So, for example, a Blueberry Chia Almond Oatmeal mix of 1/3 cup oats, 1 tablespoon each of chia seeds, sliced almonds and dried blueberries is 290 calories. This particular combination has 11 grams of fiber, 35 grams of carbohydrates, 9 grams of protein, and 25% of your iron daily value and 15% of your calcium daily value. If you serve it with sweeteners and milk, you need to add on the additional calories in the above chart. Spices have nominal calories, so feel free to sprinkle in as much as you like.
You can assemble a bunch of oatmeal jars for the week and bring them to work. Just add 3/4 cup of water and heat it in the microwave for 2 minutes (the jar gets super hot, so be sure to use potholders when you remove the jar from the microwave). Of course, you can also make this on the stovetop.
The possibilities are endless! Line up your jars and start creating your favorite combinations for your own DIY Homemade Instant Oatmeal.
