The combination of sweet juicy watermelon, salty feta and bright mint in this simple salad play to all the senses.
Our family loves to eat, and on special occasions, I use that as an excuse to eat out (it’s nice to get a break from the kitchen every once in a while). We have our favorite tried-and-true restaurants, but I love trying new restaurants and new cuisines, or foods that my kids aren’t as familiar with.
I’ve found that the more variety in cuisines my boys have been exposed to, the more adventurous they are, and the more willing and open minded they are to trying something new the next time (assuming I didn’t lead them wrong).
We’ve ventured out to Venezuelan and Peruvian restaurants that everyone has enjoyed, so I wasn’t too surprised when my kids agreed to try a Greek restaurant. One of my main considerations when choosing a restaurant are making sure there are some healthier options as well as gluten-free options.
While many American restaurants thrive on menus laden with pasta and pizza, cooked with butter and cream, ethnic restaurants, whether South American or Mediterranean seem to be prepared more simply, without breading, cheese and buttery sauces.
The typical Greek American restaurant in our area serves either diner style food (e.g., eggs, omelettes, burgers, pasta) or pizza, so it was a nice surprise to find an authentic Greek restaurant that served . Although almost everything on the menu looked appealing, we decided to order an assortment of appetizers for the table, along with a Watermelon Feta Mint Salad.
Oftentimes, that’s my favorite way to eat out, just grazing on little bites from the menu – that way everyone gets to try a variety of different dishes – it’s more fun that way.
When I got home, I couldn’t stop thinking about the sweet, salty, refreshing Watermelon Feta Mint Salad. Here’s my take on this summer salad, super simple and easy to prepare.

Georgia, the flavor combinations work magically don’t they! This is one of the most refreshing summer salads I’ve had, and has fast become a favorite.
Love this and that you used a watermelon baller. My mom got me in that habit and while it does take a bit more time, the watermelon balls are so much prettier and more appetizing than big chunks!
The watermelon balls definitely make this a fun salad. It’s one of those old kitchen tools that not too many people seem to use anymore, but I pull it out once in a while for fun!
Nothing better than a nice summery watermelon salad, looks delicious 🙂
Such a classic. I love your twist on the presentation with the melon baller. Looks super refreshing.

Thanks Alison – they do go well together. Hope you’re enjoying the summer!

Kiersten ~ this definitely reminds me of my childhood when I sprinkled salt on watermelon slices.
As much as I love salt on my watermelon, I’ve never tried something like this!! looks delicious Jeanette!
Cheryl ~ hope you try this combination. It is really refreshing with the mint!
It’s so wonderful to hear of families with similar approaches to food as ours. So often when we go out we end up with a selection of entrees and appetizers for everyone to try. This salad is gorgeous, and I’m adoring all of the seasonal melons right now. I wish summer would carry on forever so I could properly enjoy them all.
Shaina, I always love seeing your fresh whole food recipes and get so much inspiration from them. I too savor every seasonal fruit and vegetable I can get my hands on.
