Foods That Fight Breast Cancer – Anti Cancer Recipes

Do you believe there are foods that fight breast cancer and other cancers? This collection of anti-cancer recipes are foods that I’ve cooked for friends with cancer. I hope you find this inspirational and helpful, whether you’re battling cancer, cooking for someone with cancer, or just trying to stay healthy.

Today, Meg Wolff, a writer for the Huffington Post, posted an article “What We Can Do About Breast Cancer.”  Meg Wolff, a two time survivor of cancer (bone and then advanced breast cancer) changed to a plant-based diet 12 years ago after doctors gave her little hope upon going through all the traditional medical treatments.
Meg believes changing to to a plant-based diet saved her life.
In her post today, she shares a lot of important information, including the following:
  • Women who eat a plant-based diet live longer than those who eat more animal foods.  In one study, the consumption of foods high in fat, including dairy products, was associated with shorter survival among women with breast cancer.  Simply eating more vegetables each day was associated with lower rates of breast cancer recurrence.
  • A study found that women who ate an additional 1,000 calories above their optimal calorie levels experience an 84% increase in the risk of breast cancer recurrence.
  • Estrogen levels are a critical determinant of breast cancer.  The larger and more numerous the fat cells, the more estrogen a woman’s body produces; estrogen can trigger the over-production of tissue and inflammation inside the breast and uterus.  Eating a high-fiber diet helps keep estrogen levels low.
  • A plant-based diet is low in fat, rich in fiber, and abundant in cancer-fighting chemicals.  Cruciferous vegetables are among the most protective vegetables.  Plants contain antioxidants, which help boost the number and agressiveness of the body’s primary cancer fighter, natural killer cells.
Please be sure to read Meg’s entire article and her other posts on cancer and diet.
If you have breast cancer or know someone who does, here are some anti-cancer recipes that contain foods that fight cancer, many of which I’ve made for my friends with breast cancer.  These recipes include what I like to call anti cancer ingredients. In many of my posts, I try to include information on anti cancer ingredients that are in the recipes.  Please note that when cooking for people with cancer, using organic produce is strongly encouraged to reduce exposure to chemicals.  I’ve also included some informational posts on cancer-fighting foods.
Please share your experiences by commenting below.  Also, if you need any help with recipes, let me know.  I love to experiment and my passion is cooking for people with cancer.

Thanks for the link to the article and also the great recipe links (love the smoothie ones!). I have recently finished treatment for Hodgkins so am doing my best to avoid processed foods and colors, preservatives, etc.

Thanks. Sounds like you're on the right track. Eliminating processed foods will naturally rid your intake of artificial colors, flavors, preservatives, white flour, and white sugar. Even items that say "naturally flavored" contain chemicals. Reading labels really helps so you know exactly what you're eating. Keep going!

Hi Arden – do you have friends or people in the community you can reach out to help cook for you? Perhaps you can share some of these recipes with them and ask them to help. Mealtrain is a good online meal scheduler where people can sign up to make meals for you.
