Last week, I had the opportunity to join a VIP Tasting Dinner at Bistro 7 Restaurant + Bar in Wilton, Connecticut. Interestingly, this restaurant is located in a little strip that looks like it’s in the middle of nowhere, taking over a space that used to be a gluten-free cafe that I went to buy fresh gluten-free bread several years ago.
I was pleasantly surprised to find that the space has been transformed from a deli-like atmosphere to a warm and inviting restaurant and bar, great for intimate gatherings.
Bistro 7’s menu reflects owner, Breno Donatti’s, passion for comfort and locally sourced food, offering a fresh, healthier approach to American comfort food made with organic produce from local Connecticut farmers as much as possible. They even plant a small garden on property to supplement their needs. Bistro 7 is also a large supporter of the Slow Food Movement, and believes in supporting local small businesses.
The menu is marked with gluten-free and vegetarian options (including items that can modified as needed to meet special dietary requirements). Their wine and beer list is carefully selected to make sure everything is actually “worth the sip,” including several certified organic or bio-dynamic wines, and local beers.
We were presented with an eight course tasting menu paired with wines, ales and spirits – what a treat! Favorites from the evening included the Beef and Gouda Risotto Ball with Basil Pesto Cream Sauce, Pan-Seared Swordfish accompanied with Mango Salsa and Mango Glaze, Lentil Soup garnished with bacon (fresh garlic is stirred in towards the end of cooking which adds a nice dimension to the soup), and Butterscotch Pudding with Chocolate Coffee Swirl, which was absolutely decadent.
I thoroughly enjoyed the evening and hope to return to Bistro 7 Restaurant + Bar soon.
