Kris Carr’s Crazy Sexy Diet

A few weeks ago, I had the opportunity to attend a book signing for Crazy Sexy Diet by Kris Carr, sponsored by Catch a Healthy Habit Café and ProMindful.

I have to say the title of Kris Carr’s book took me by surprise at first, especially since Kris is a cancer survivor. How could cancer possibly be sexy? Kris Carr was diagnosed with a rare and incurable cancer eight years ago at the age of 31, with numerous inoperable tumors throughout her liver and lungs. Not only did Kris Carr film a documentary, Crazy Sexy Cancer, but she went on to write three books, including her most recent Crazy Sexy Diet book. How could cancer ever be called sexy? Well, Kris Carr has certainly managed to make cancer sexy in her new book.

When I saw Kris Carr, I was immediately struck by her energy and enthusiastic stage presence (she studied acting before her diagnosis).

Kris is funny, honest, to the point, and an amazing motivational speaker. She presents a serious matter in a highly entertaining forum. Interestingly enough, I sat next to a woman who is vegan, and had tried Kris Carr’s Crazy Sexy Diet over a year ago, and never felt better in her life. Unfortunately, she fell off the bandwagon, and was suffering the after-effects. She was confident that simply listening to Kris Carr that evening would motivate her to return to the Crazy Sexy Diet.

After Kris’ presentation, I anxiously waited to have my book signed. When I finally got up to the front of the line, Kris was as pleasant and personable as I imagined. She has such an incredible smile and presence about her. After I got home from the book signing, I couldn’t wait to plow through her information-packed, fun-to-read book (the design of Crazy Sexy Diet is so cheery and eye catching). Although Kris is a vegan, she doesn’t push it on her readers. She simply provides evidence and encouragement for her readers, and allows the reader to make choices for themselves.

So, what is Kris Carr’s Crazy Sexy Diet all about? Essentially, the Crazy Sexy Diet cuts out processed foods, caffeine, alcohol, white flour, animal fats and highly acidic foods, and includes lots of vegetables and juicing, meditation and exercise. Here’s a quick summary:
  • Shifting your diet to support an alkaline interior environment (at least 60% alkaline/40% acid)
  • Detoxifying your body
  • Eating anti-inflammatory raw foods
  • Juicing
  • Going gluten-free
  • Making low-glycemic choices
  • Reducing/eliminating animal products
  • Cleaning out your gut
  • Managing stress through meditation and exercise
  • Taking supplements as needed

Crazy Sexy Diet also includes a 21-day Cleanse program and some Crazy Sexy Recipes. Crazy Sexy Diet is jam-packed with practical tidbits as well as detailed explanations of how the gut works (a topic I am particularly interested in since I am currently dealing with this very issue with my son). In fact, there is so much information to absorb, that I am going through Crazy Sexy Diet page by page for a second time and third time, at least.

Although I haven’t tried her daily Make Juice, Not War Green Juice that Kris drinks twice a day, I have already taken her advice to add Aloe Vera to my son’s daily smoothies. Not only is Aloe Vera supposed to boost your overall immune system, but Aloe Vera is anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and antiviral. It soothes digestive tract irritations. My son can attest to the healing properties of Aloe Vera. The morning after I made a smoothie using Aloe Vera, my son asked what I had put in his smoothie the night before. He felt so much better already, and I have been adding this healing juice to his smoothies ever since.

Many of the dietary changes I have made for my son, who is suffering from a bout of allergies all of a sudden, are consistent with Kris Carr’s suggestions, and since I have witnessed the improvement in my son’s well being over the past month by making these dietary changes and focusing on his mental well-being, I am planning on incorporating more of Kris’ ideas.

If you’re interesting in becoming healthier, whether or not you’re fighting disease, I highly recommend Kris Carr’s Crazy Sexy Diet. Even if you try a handful of Kris Carr’s suggestions, I truly believe you will feel positive effects, and want to try even more.
As Kris Carr said in the most recent issue of Natural Health, “Revamping  your health starts with your mouth. What you put in it and the words that come out of it determine your destiny…Change the menu. Rewrite the recipe and break your bad eating habits before they break you.”

A group of editors and directors at Natural Health Magazine just started Kris Carr’s 21-day cleanse and are blogging  about their experience. Natural Health Magazine is also giving away 20 copies of Kris Carr’s Cray Sexy Diet.

    Jeanette this is why I LOVE your blog so much! I recently headed to the library to check out this book to find that I am on a wait list of over 40 people. I'm willing to wait it out unless I can win a copy. I have a hard time buying books now that I realized how much money I've been saving my using my free resource. Can't wait to read more on your blog about what you've learned. I've heard of the aloe vera juice and using it as a way to help with weight loss. Can't wait to get my grubby paws on that book!
